    Active duty (Title 10) veterans who are 100% Totally and Permanently disabled are entitled to a 100% property tax exemption for the property that they dwell in.

    An indication of 100% Totally and Permanently disabled status is the award of of Chapter 35 Educational Assistance for dependents or if you receive Individual Unemployability.


    Once you present your honorable discharge and The NJ Tax Exemption letter from the Veterans Administration to your local tax assessor you will no longer be liable for property tax.


    Reservists and National Guard Members who only have active duty for training do not qualify for the exemption.


    To obtain a copy of your discharge visit http://www.archives.gov

    To obtain the NJ Tax Exemption letter from the VA please e-mail Paul.kale@dmava.nj.gov

    A copy of your honorable discharge (the word honorable must be on the form) and a copy of your VA determination letter.
